Capra
Paper Tongues
Vocals
This vocal is pretty unique, at least to me it is. It feels like someone that stands in the middle of a busy area and tries to sell something. They need to have a voice that sounds urgent, that stands out above the crowd, that says what they are saying is important. Though I worry about her vocal cords, it is curious.
Music
I like how the drums feel hard-hitting. I like how the music picks up when she isn't doing any vocals. The guitar riff changes make sense. It has a fun movement that I like.
Lyrics
I think this song is talking about a lot of what we chose to do in life being based on our experience. Sometimes we see someone do something, or we surprise ourselves with what we do, and we think where did that come from? But we learned it somewhere along the way. I can't help but think of the cycle of abuse. Apparently, most abusers have been abused themselves. Most of the abused have experienced past abuse.
Can we help people break free of their chains? Does caring about someone lead to change? Is there a time when we refuse to put our head in the same trap?
You’re afraid of your own darkness too, but not like me, you don’t fear like I do
And I don’t want to turn away, all I’ve ever wanted is to help you
I want to fight the monster in you but I’m afraid I might hurt you too and that’s too much to bear
I do what I do and I say what I say because I care
And still you bare your teeth / Hate still lies beneath / The cycle continues
I let you hurt me again / I let you hurt me again and again and again
Why did I let it win? Why did I let it win?
Because deep down within I know what you’re capable of
The pain you inflict is how you were taught to love
And how could I turn down love?
I’ve already learned to forgive
Maybe one day I’ll learn to forget
Either way I’ll be here by your side
At your shores crimson red
