Impending Doom
Hellbent
Culture of Death
Vocals
I really like the growly vocal. I don't mind the electronic thing going on with the voice; it makes it different. At the same time, it isn't totally my thing. Mixed about this one.
Music
I really wasn't sure about this song when it first opened up. I thought it was going to get stuck in a loop of repetition, but they changed things in a way I wasn't expecting. The breakdowns were a little too prominent for me, at times (such as at 3:00).
Lyrics
Before I heard a lyric this title made sense to me. We as a culture are so into hating other people but then calling them the haters, we don't take responsibility. This only leads to death metaphorically.
But the lyrics made me think of a friend who is able to give herself tattoos, and finds it takes her mind off her internal pain. I know for many people this is why they self-harm. I know when I was a kid, the reason I did was because I hated myself, so I wrote myself hateful words. It was an expression of that. Pain and loathing, he’d rather bleed from within than feel nothing at all.
Insecurities they’re clouding up your mind, you can’t escape, you can’t escape, you can’t escape.
Nothings good enough to be liked or loved, the toxic traits you possess are disguised by force fed lies.
Pain and loathing are the drugs that make him feel.
